We have an immediate opening for an Assistant Controller in our Corner Brook office. The Assistant Controller will support the Controller by examining and analyzing accounting records of the organization’s diverse lines of business. The candidate will demonstrate a strong knowledge of financial accounting standards and have responsibility for, but not limited to financial reporting preparation, payroll administration, assisting with budget preparation, account reconciliation, and internal controls monitoring. Key Responsibilities • Assist with full cycle accounting including variance analysis and month end reporting • Lead payroll administration for all payroll processes including accuracy of time entry, payment, benefits administration, and payroll remittances • Assist with management of accounting and budgeting within the organization • Assist with preparations for audits • Ensure compliance with and prepare reports according to applicable government regulations • Review and analyze monthly budget variance reports and balance sheet accounts • Review project financial statements for accuracy and financial objectives • General Ledger maintenance including significant account reconciliations for monthly working papers • Monthly Bank reconciliations • Develop new processes to promote efficiencies and improve internal controls • Complete various recurring and ad hoc reports requested by company’s executive team members
Required Skills and Qualifications • A University degree or College diploma in accounting, business, or finance stream. Preference will be given to candidates who are enrolled in or have an accounting or payroll designation. • Minimum of five years of progressive experience and knowledge of all aspects of accounting and financial reporting. • Knowledge of appropriate accounting principles, practices, and applications. • Advanced skills in MS Office, with exceptional Excel abilities. • Proficient communication, interpersonal and organizational skills are vital to the role. • Good problem-solving skills and analytical skills. • Able to work efficiently as a part of a team as well as independently. • High level of critical and logical thinking, analysis, and/or reasoning to identify underlying principles, reasons, or facts. • Able to work well under pressure and meet set deadlines. • Good organizational, time management and prioritizing skills. • Experience in job costing and knowledge of construction accounting software would be an asset
